THE SONG OF EMPEDOCLES

“Come … I will tell you of the birth of the sun, and the springs from which issue all that we may see.” These words that open the film are addressed to us by Empedocles, at a distance of 2500 years. There follow the songs of the wind, the earth, of water, of iron and fire, the hidden breath of the elements. The life of trees, of grasses, and of stone blend with those of women, men, and beasts. Their voices merge with the metamorphoses of an invisible Wanderer whose journey reminds us that the stories we believe to be outside of time never pass away. “All dies, all flowers again. All shatters, all comes together anew, unto eternity.” In the end, which is also a new beginning, there is the fire…
